Satloff and I

Satloff and I
9/2/10

I love soccer, I play soccer, I watch soccer, and I play video games about soccer. Satloff hates playing sports though. The way that pure athleticism always wins. It is also the fastest, biggest, and strongest that are the best. I am not physically gifted, my best asset is my touch on the ball. I get out-run, and out-muscled, yet I still am the best.

Satloff was never really good at soccer. As a young boy soccer was his third sport after basketball, and baseball. I have always loved soccer, and I’ve known since the day I was born that I would become a soccer player and nothing else. Satloff is looking to finish his career as a collegiate soccer player and does not possess the talent to go any farther than that. I do not listen my critics. Satloff and I talk and listen to each other all the time.

I do not know which of us that has written this page.

Really good beginning in my opinion. Catches the reader's attention with a joke and jumps right into the conflict.

  3. "I do not listen to my critics. Satloff and I talk and listen to each other all the time." I thought that this line was interesting because although you show that the two sides of your self are at odds with each other, this line shows that there is a communicating and understanding between the two.

Zeke, I appreciate how honest you are here. You are your own inner critic, but you still acknowledge that you are talented despite how "pure athleticism always wins".

  5. Z--You do a nice job of moving between how much you love and hate soccer at the same time. The opening of the piece is funny.

I love soccer, I play soccer, I watch soccer, and I play video games about soccer.

Why is this important? Because if you can "grab" the reader right from the start, make him/her laugh, then you have won, you have already scored the goal before the ball has hit the back of the net. Excellent work.

I like the way you finish your piece by showing there is more than just an argument. Though you share different views in the end you still listen to each other, or yourself.

  7. "I get out-run, and out-muscled, yet I still am the best." I like the way you incorporated what Satloff hates about the sport with what you are the best at.

I really like this one line in particular partly because of its ironic stand point but mainly for its truthfulness. Your best critic is your own. Self criticism drives your self to perfection.

  9. "The way that pure athleticism always wins". You are saying that you aren't the biggest or the strongest but you manage to keep playing even though you love the competition, but satloff hates it.

It makes both people seem like they are in this fight they maybe different but they are very similar shows the really connection.

"yet still i am the best"...a little cocky
